“Putulu Payer” Nzoloko Fashion show (Ongoing project)
To return, not recourse, but a complete leap into the past, to have the audacity to express an opinion without necessarily being influenced by history, even if naturally influenced, at the risk of twisting it, as if I were living there now. That's where my creation, my contribution, lies. To question, confront and bring together the notion of elegance, possession and physical beauty of the ancestral cultures of autochthonous peoples and the notion of luxury and appearance as experienced, perceived and apprehended in our contemporary society.
‘Putulu Payer - Nzoloko Fashion Show is intended to be a hybrid performative installation combining textile (fashion) sculpture, light, sound, immersive video and photographic installation. This work will explore the Congolese concept of “Putulu Payer”, a multi-layered expression that evokes admiration, material acquisition, flattery and value. All through the prism of post-colonial aesthetics and personal memory.
